Influence of process parameters and runner geometry on shear heating effect

STRESZCZENIE: Zjawisko nagrzewania się stopu polimeru na skutek ścinania może powodować istotne problemy z jakością elementów produkowanych metodą wtryskiwania tworzyw. Źródłem tego efektu jest wysoka lepkość polimerów oraz niskie przewodnictwo cieplne, wywołujące duży gradient temperatury na przekroju kanałów dolotowych. W artykule omówiono wpływ parametrów nastawnych na to zjawisko, przy czym analizowano kanały dolotowe o różnej długości i średnicy oraz dwa polimery o różnej wrażliwości termicznej.

ABSTRACT: Shear heating effect that occurs in melted polymers can cause serious quality problems with production of injection molded parts. The source of this effect is high viscosity of polymers and low thermal conductivity what leads to significant temperature gradients at the cross section of runners. In this work the influence of processing parameters on this phenomenon for difference runner diameters and lengths was presented for two polymers that have different thermal sensitivity
